Collection Notes

The landscapes painted for this collection are inspired by summertime in South Africa. They are snapshots from early mornings, where the mist swirls between the fields and gorges of the mountains, only to give way to a very hot and sunny day later on.

Certain parts of South Africa fall within a summer rain region, where the clouds turn as dark as shadows before a great thunderstorm. This creates a beautiful play of light between the sunshine and the rain that tints the skies pink and grey.

Some landscapes were painted from photographs I have taken, or from ones friends and family sent to me of a moment captured.

A bright and whimsical palette gives these postcard paintings a sense of romance, while still being a little bit dramatic and bringing forth rich earthy tones.

Thoughts that linger

As a part of my creative process and finding inspiration for a new painting or collection, I usually scribble down a few notes or words to help my brush find its way. One of my goals for the new year is to work more on my creative writing practice, so the month of January presented itself with the perfect opportunity to explore this. I also needed to jump back into my art practice, so it was natural that the two would merge together.

I’ve always through of my scribblings as somewhat “writing wild”, literally pencil marks across the page in all angles and mostly unreadable. Once I started to really look at the words, a certain free structure began to emerge, and I could transform my musings into poems.

The postcard artwork is fully able to live on its own, but I found that the addition of a string of sentences gave more depth, feeling and emotional color to the postcard. Especially, to those onlookers who want a small painting to completely captivate and engage their whole imagination.

Like my artwork, and the belief that Mood Forest is all about art that moves with your mood, these poems can be melancholic, dramatic, moody, light, romantic or inspiring, depending on you feel the moment you read the words.

Miniature landscapes to elevate any space

There are 10 original postcard landscape pieces available in this collection. Each one speaks with its own unique voice.

Postcards come with a mounting board (white board frame) already included to make a final size of 297x210mm/A4. Mounting boards were cut by a professional framer in Stellenbosch. By adding a white border, the miniature painting can expand its presence and it gives a professional finish.

All pieces are ready to be put in an A4-sized standard frame. You can easily use a store-bought A4 (297x210mm) frame and your artwork will immediately be ready for hanging on your wall (watch a how-to video HERE). These postcard landscapes can also be put on a small wooden easel, like this one, to be displayed beautifully.

The poem included with each artwork is printed on ivory 300gms Fabriano paper and hand-torn to give a deckled edge effect.

Artwork are painted on 300gms hot-pressed artist paper and varnished to protect the painting.
