Collection Notes
When the sun begins to show its head a little later in the morning and dips away a little bit earlier in the evening, the landscape begins to bend to the power of the changing seasons.
The Sunflower Soirée mini collection celebrates autumn as a true festival of color. The late sunflower harvests are inspired by childhood memories spent in the South African countryside, always accompanied by a late afternoon thunderstorm.
The jewel-like colors of autumn can be hard to overlook, but the beauty is of a fleeting and melancholic sort. It evokes a feeling of warmth and comfort, but at the same time the uncertainty of change and barren winter that will arrive soon. It reflects, in a way, the seasons and cycles of our lives too. They can be fleeting, beautiful or not, but all deserve to be celebrated and accepted with gratitude.
Be brave and bloom brightly like the vibrant sunflower. Stand strong in your roots, even when the storm comes a long.
This collection was painted with the intention of giving the optimism, vulnerability and calming warmth of autumn and everlasting place.

I doubt that I can continue to bloom brightly, but I know as long as I stay rooted under majestic skies and the eyes of heaven, the gloom of the midnight fields won’t get to me

Palette and Textures
The Sunflower Soirée palette is one of vibrant yellows, nebulous blues and calming dusky pinks.
The sunflowers shows off in different hues of yellow from sharp lemon to muted ocher.
The skies are mostly a clear blue, or stormy, with the help of my favorite Paynes Grey and Periwinkle Blue.
Autumn fields are a joy to paint with a mixture of earthy terracotta and soft peach with a hint of rust. The skies reflect the color of the fields in the pinks of dusk and undertones of moody blue-greys.
